Omega European Masters

It was right back at the beginning of the 20th Century that Crans-Montana opened its golf course – the highest golf course in the World. Since then, the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf-Club has become famous on greens all over the world, thanks notably to the annually Omega European Masters in September, which brings world golf stars to Crans-Montana, and is followed by millions of television viewers.

Today, golf in Crans-Montana, is all about courses designed by Severiano Ballesteros and Jack Nicklaus. In Crans-Montana are four golf courses:

1. Parcours de golf Severiano Ballesteros – 18 holes
2. Parcours de golf Jack Nicklaus – 9 holes
3. Parcours de golf Jack Noas – 9 holes
4. Parcours de golf Super-Crans – 9 holes

Golf courses in the region

In the direct region of La Baronne are three more 18 holes golf courses:

1. Sierre (15 minutes) – 18 holes
2. Sion (20 minutes) – 18 holes
3. Leuk (25 minutes – 18 holes

The Valais is known for her ‘bisses’. The “bisses” are traditional irrigation channels which were built several centuries ago in order to bring precious gletcher water to the cultivated lands around. Along these streams beautiful paths have been made. Since the decay is small they are ideal and easy to walk. Routes are clearly marked, in fact you only have to follow the water. Bisses can be walked on all levels (easy – dizzying) and all heights in the mountains.

With 177 km of marked tracks, Crans-Montana has an extraordinary wealth of mountain biking possibilities. As a bonus, they include acrobatic bridges and a Kona Bikepark.

There are plenty of mountain bike excursions to enjoy above the resort, and also below it, rejoining the Rhone Valley. Scooters with impressive wheels (« Monster 4×4 ») provide another way of hurtling down the slopes. There are guided excursions for families and introductory excursions for beginners.

Crans-Montana offers beauty treatment and fitness centres, freshwater and saltwater swimming pools, jaccuzis in the snow, solariums, natural medicine centres, yoga lessons.

In the region you will find 2 large thermal baths, from which the largest of Europe is in Leukerbad at 45 minutes’ drive from La Baronne.
